CHILDREN SAFEGUARD POLICY

PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS

BOLLYWOOD DANCE COMPANY PTY LTD. (BDC) Dance Instructors and its volunteers, are committed to ensuring safe environments for children and young people and believe that it is unacceptable for a child or young person to experience abuse of any kind. This policy applies to all BDCstaff, volunteers and anyone in paid or unpaid work on behalf the organisation.

We recognise that:

  • BDC believes that every child and adult at risk has the right to enjoy the arts and related activities without bullying, intimidation or harassment, or physical, emotional or psychological harm.
  • The welfare of the child/young person is paramount.
  • All children, regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation or identity, have the right to equal protection from all types of harm or abuse.

Code of behaviour and good practice:

BDC’s code of behaviour and good practice is meant to give advice on protecting children and vulnerable adults while helping to avoid any practices which could be misinterpreted or lead to false allegations. BDC’s staff members, partners, trainees, volunteers, anyone in paid or unpaid work and students involved in activities on behalf of BDC which include children and/or vulnerable adults must adhere to the following code:

  • BDC staff members, trainees, volunteers, anyone in paid or unpaid work on behalf of the organisation students and visitors must treat with respect all children and vulnerable adults, respecting their rights to personal privacy.
  • BDC staff members, trainees, volunteers, anyone in paid or unpaid work on behalf of the organisation, students, and visitors to BDC should be aware that any physical contact with a child or young person may be misinterpreted. Where this is required, it should be provided openly in front of other students. It must be made clear that physical touching is required for correctional purposes only.
  • In activities, feedback should always be constructive and the language used not threatening or upsetting.
  • Unobserved contact with a young person or vulnerable adult should be avoided, unless authorised by a parent or guardian.
  • If first aid is required, it should be administered by a trained first aider in the presence of another adult, and the Manager should be informed.
  • Written parental or guardian consent should always be obtained for the use if first aid is required, it should be administered by a trained first aider in the presence of another adult, and the Manager should be informed.
  • Written parental or guardian consent should always be obtained for the use of any photographs, film or videos involving children and vulnerable adults.

The purpose of the policy:

  • To provide protection for the children and young people who participate in our show productions, events etc.
  • To provide staff and volunteers with guidance on procedures they should adopt in the event that they suspect a child or young person may be experiencingor be at risk of harm.

We will seek to safeguard children and young people by:

  • Valuing them, listening to and respecting them.
  • Recruiting staff and volunteers safely, ensuring all necessary checks are made.
  • Sharing information about child protection and safe working practice with children, parents, staff and volunteers.
  • Sharing information about concerns with agencies who need to know, and involving parents and children appropriately.
  • Providing effective management for staff and volunteers through supervision, support and training.

All the teachers are WWCC checked and cleared & First Aid trained.
